Life Skills Programme - 10 sessions

  • Malmesbury Town Hall Cross Hayes England United Kingdom (map)

Our 10 session Life Skills Programme provides a creative and natural way to help your dog grow the behaviours you desire and to eliminate the behaviours that you least like.

This class is suitable for dogs of any age. Dogs never outgrow learning You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Similarly an early start on training sets you up for a happy life.

Our training focuses on building a strong relationship with our dogs which creates a strong foundation for a shared life together. Training is in the form of 3 minute games that the dog enjoys and finds rewarding. No punishments are necessary to change the behaviour of a dog.

“This is a more natural way of dog training” (Previous Faithful Friends client)

No matter what age, your dog is learning every moment of every day... even when you are not teaching them.

It is rewarding and comforting to bark or to hump so the dog repeats the behaviour. Just saying "no" means nothing it is not an action that your dog can take. It is better to teach your dog to find different ways to deal with difficult situations.

We teach you to train concepts like self-control, calmness, confidence... which become so ingrained in the dog that they transfer to any new situation they may encounter... We teach these concepts through 3 minute games you can play frequently through the week.

What we will cover on our life skills programme:

FOCUS (key skill for any dog training success)

SELF CONTROL (a dog that doesn’t pounce on the leftover cake on the table)

CALMNESS (teaching the dog to calm down)

OUT AND ABOUT SKILLS (walking on lead, getting away from trouble, strange encounters)

PLAY (a key skill for developing relationship and teaching new concepts)

CONFIDENCE (a fearful dog is a difficult dog)

GRIT (A dog with determination and desire to keep going even when there is little or no reinforcement available)

STAYING CLOSE (training a dog that is happy to be very close to you)

FITNESS AND HEALTH (games to engage a busy brain, grow a healthy dog)

RECALL (including how to be more attractive to your dog than the squirrel across the field)

This is a TEN SESSION programme.

The first week’s session is a 60 - 90 minute group coaching session meet up in a coffee shop without dogs. A fantastic opportunity to run through the aims and expectations of the programme and to discuss all your initial dog owning struggles and hopes for this season of training.

The following 8 weeks we will work together with our dogs in 45 minute training sessions learning and practicing the games that build the concepts to practice at home. Dog training is most effective in short bursts throughout the day.

The last session happens as a separate, one to one consultation with your class teacher. Preferably before or after one of the class sessions.

You will have the opportunity to book these 30-60 minute one to one sessions during the last 6 weeks of the course. These are invaluable to troubleshoot your personal training struggles.

The value of a one to one consultation is £45... but this fantastic opportunity is included in your course.
