Puppy Classes

  • Malmesbury Town Hall Cross Hayes England United Kingdom (map)

Our Puppy class provides a comprehensive start to a life of learning and relationship with your puppy.

Our training focuses on building a strong relationship with our puppies which creates a strong foundation for a shared life together.

Recognising that puppies have all choices available to them (desirable and undesirable behaviours) We teach you to reinforce and strengthen the behaviours that you like. Encouraging puppies to make the right choice rather than just obey a command.

“This is a more natural way of dog training” (Previous Faithful Friends client)

Your puppy is learning every moment of every day... even when you are not teaching them.

Imagine this: Puppy sees half-drunk cup of sweet milky tea on the carpet, puppy drinks tea – puppy finds this rewarding. Puppy knocks the cup over (dregs drip all over the floor) but cup is now a rolling object on the carpet – puppy finds this new toy rewarding too. In 5 minutes alone with a half-drunk cup of tea the puppy has learned that things left on the floor can be rewarding and fun.

How do we train them to leave these things alone?

Many trainers train a “leave” command but that requires you to be in the room.

We teach you to train your puppy to only engage in things that you have told them they can have. SELF CONTROL

This is CONCEPT training. We teach you to train concepts like self-control, calmness, confidence... which become so ingrained in the puppy that they transfer to any new situation they may encounter... We teach these concepts through 3 minute games you can play frequently through the week.

Many new puppy owners will be advised to take their puppy out and encounter every possible thing in life... working through a checklist to make sure the puppy will not be disturbed in later life by all these things. So you go out, ticking your list, making sure that the puppy has met a child, a black dog, a small dog , a big dog, a cat, a hamster, a man in a high-vis vest, a man with a beard, a pram, a wheelchair, a bike, a scooter, a woman with a perm... With the best will in the world nobody can train for every eventuality... You could have ticked off the entire list... then one day out of the blue you encounter a man with a wizards hat on holding an umbrella and your puppy freaks out... Because you never practiced for that!

The difference we bring through concept training is that we teach a puppy to grow full confidence and that novelty (all new things) can be good and not scary at all. With proper confidence and tolerance to novelty plus the ability to disengage they can cope with any strange thing that they encounter along life.

Puppy classes can include teaching on:

FOCUS (key skill for any dog training success)

CALMNESS (teaching the dog to calm down)

OUT AND ABOUT SKILLS (walking on lead, getting away from trouble, strange encounters)

RECALL (including how to be more attractive to your dog than the squirrel across the field)

PLAY (a key skill for developing relationship and teaching new concepts)

CONFIDENCE (a fearful dog is a difficult dog)

COPING WITH NOVELTY (Helping the dog cope with all new things in life)

STAYING CLOSE (training a dog that is happy to be very close to you)

FITNESS AND HEALTH (games to engage a busy brain, grow a healthy dog)

SELF CONTROL (a dog that doesn’t pounce on the leftover cake on the table)
